Almost every year, we stay in Quartzsite AZ with friends from the "Boomers" group, a part of the Escapees RV Club. This year, Larry's brother Kenny and Mary with their granddaughter Lily came to camp with us for a few days. In addition, friends Joanie and Steve stopped by for the night and friends Alan and Silvana camped with us for over a week. Aerial video taken on January 23rd, 2016 with a 3D R...
Our Travel Adventures - Cruising Fulltime
Dear Family & Friends, 2015 was a banner year for us and we would like to share some of the highlights we had. Though 2015 didn’t start out so wonderful for Larry, January found us in our annual spot of Quartzsite AZ. We enjoy gathering with our RV friends to spend a couple of weeks in the desert. We had just arrived and Larry was putting up the solar panels when he fell off a ladder and...
Although I've had my new sUAS (small Unmanned Aerial System, aka Drone) for 3 months, I finally decided to test the "Follow-Me" and "Watch-Me" flight modes. All worked very well. These flight modes work as follows: Follow-Me - The sUAS follows the GPS signal from the tablet or phone, keeping the subject in the center of the video screen. I used my Samsung Galaxy S2 tablet inside of the Jeep and dr...
I finally got around to adding the 1200+ photos we took during our 2015 RV Adventure to Alaska. If interested, you can find these photos in our "Photo Gallery".
After returning back to the "lower 48", we stayed at the Angel of the Winds Casino on Aug 27th for the night (free, 48.215229, -122.183998) again. This was the same casino we stayed at before going into Canada. They've recently created a new dry camping area on the northern parking lot. Food is still good there. We then headed to Burien, WA and stayed at the Elks Lodge RV Park for 2 weeks (Aug 28t...
I was learning and testing the use of Dashware software with APM telemetry logs synced and overlapped on an aerial video. This video was shot at a overnight stop near Destruction Bay in British Columbia, Canada. Filmed using a 3DRobotics Iris+ and GoPro Hero 3+. Dashware lets you read a telemetry data file and sync it with a video. You can then overlay "gauges" on your video to show the telemetry ...
During our return trip from Alaska, we stopped for the night at the Burns Lake Municipal Campground in British Columbia, Canada. This is a free city operated campground on the lake. There's a 3 night stay limit. This is a very nice little park. We arrived around 2:00pm and were the only campers there. There's about 7 sites available, and room for a couple more RV's in the parking lot. A few hours ...
While we enjoyed our free camp site at Peterson Lake, it was time to move on. We headed back to Anchorage for a couple nights (July 13th - 14th). We stayed in the Sam's Club parking lot, allowing us to restock on groceries and do laundry. On our last night we enjoyed another Boomer get together. 12 of us met at a restaurant close by for more travel story swapping. Refueled and ready to continue on...
We stayed on the "Spit" at Homer from June 24th - July 8th. As expected, the July 4th holiday weekend was a mad-house in the campground. We enjoyed our stay in Homer, but after a couple weeks, we were ready to move on. During our stay in Homer, we hiked in an Alpine Meadow at the Eveline Recreation Area (where I left off in our previous Blog entry). While visiting the Bear Creek Winery, Larry made...
Before our trip to Alaska, we bought the "Alaska TourSaver" book. This $99 book includes hundreds of coupons, mostly "two-for-one" deals on tourist attractions. We used a few coupons at some gift shops while in Anchorage for free gifts. They were mostly 50 cent souvenir magnets. One of the coupons Connie wanted to use was for an Alaska train trip from Anchorage to Whittier. There was no special re...
