December 2004 Travel Log

12/31: We've been having a great time here. More people have been showing up daily. Being New Year's eve, we had a Karaoke party, then a "get to know the Boomers" game, called Z-circle, and finally our New Year's party. These people know how to party! Connie loves karaoke, but has only done it once last year with the Boomer's group in Quartzsite. She's been looking forward to this all year. She sang in almost 33% of the songs. For the game, which really isn't a game, we broke into groups and visited with two other couples in their rigs for 45 minutes. We rotated 4 times, allowing us to spend semi-private time with 11 other couples. It was a good way to get to know other people.

November 2004 Travel Log

November 2004 Travel Log

This was a special month for us. We celebrated our 26th anniversary with a special vacation to Australia. We rented a Campervan and spent 28 days driving around Australia. We drove 3,531 miles around the Southeast corner of Australia, visiting the states of New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. The following is our daily log of adventures. I've also written a general article on our experience and lessons learned about renting a RV and traveling in Australia.

11/1: We got off from the L.A. Airport without any problems. The lines were short, and security was thorough, but didn’t take long. Of course, leaving at 11:45pm helped. The flight was long (about 15 hours), and getting to sleep was difficult. But we did have individual TV screens and a choice of over a dozen movies and shows to watch. Besides sleeping for a couple hours, we enjoyed 3 first-run movies each during the flight.

11/2: Because we crossed the date line, we lost today. Gone – a day lost in our lives!

October 2004 Travel Log

October 2004 Travel Log

10/29: Well, we're homeless now. Our "wheel estate" has been placed into short-term storage. We packed up a selection of clothes and emptied the fridge and freezer and now we're staying with Connie's parents in Torrance, CA until our plane leaves on Monday. They treated us to a nice dinner out for Connie's birthday. We've rented a small motorhome in Australia and will tour the Southeast corner for 28 days. We'll have to rely on Internet Cafe's periodically, so I don't expect to update this web site until we return in early December. I'll try to keep the log current while traveling, so I'll be able to upload it all immediately after we return. Check back in December, and you can read all about our adventures traveling in Australia in a motorhome.

September 2004 Travel Log

September 2004 Travel Log

9/30: We've met up with 9 other Boomer families and are now parked at the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. We're parked right on the edge of the primary landing area for the balloons with our huge front window facing the landing area. Although there were a few hot air balloons flying this morning, the scheduled events don't start until tomorrow evening. We'll attend "chase crew school" tomorrow morning. We're excited about helping inflate and chase the balloons (actually, we're only chasing a specific balloon, sponsored by Monaco Coach). We've met some of these fellow Boomers before, and we're already hitting it off well with all of them. It's fun as we proudly announce we're new full-timers of three weeks. We know we're in for a fun, and tiring week. I'll try to take plenty of pictures and will post some here soon.
